Ernst Mach Grant - Information and Application

Dear colleagues & partners,

Today we would like to remind you of the “Ernst Mach” grant. The grant programme awarded by the OeAD (Austrian Agency for International Cooperation in Education and Research) and the BMWFW (Austrian Federal Ministry of Science, Research and Economy) is designed for undergraduate and graduate students under 35 years of non-European countries and of all study-disciplines. The official information by the OaAD can be found here.

The monthly grant rate of € 1.050,- can be paid during a period of 4 to 10 month. Travel subsidies are possible for students from developing countries. The grant is an option for all students who plan to study at FHWien der WKW University of Applied Sciences for Management & Communication during the next winter semester (September 2018 - January 2019) and/or summer semester (February 2019 – June 2019).

As it is a great opportunity for your students, we would be really happy if you were able to promote the grant programme!

Please note that there is only ONE application deadline for the grant (1st of March) per academic year, including both winter semester (September – January) and summer semester (February – June). As students need an application letter from FHWien der WKW they have to apply with us first. That is why we set up a special nomination and application deadline for students who wish to apply for the grant:

Nomination deadline: 15th of January

Application deadline: 31st of January

All other nominations and applications can be submitted until the normal deadlines (15th and 31st of May).

If you can’t meet the special Ernst Mach deadlines in January due to your own processes, please let us know as soon as possible and we can find a solution.

Attached you find detailed information about the application process in our Guidelines. You can also forward the document to the students, it contains some really helpful information about the application documents and criteria. During the last years we got some insight into the evaluation criteria from the responsible organisations:

-          Formal criteria are really important: students should take care of form, spelling and grammar of their application and mostly of meeting all formal criteria (correct documents, recommendation letters etc.) Also really important: late applications will not be considered (please mind that the deadline is according to central European time!)

-          Content: students should be able to explain to the experts evaluating the application why they would profit from the experience of studying in Austria, especially at FHWien. Is there a special relation to Austria, do they have any special interest/business ideas/research projects etc. which would benefit from their stay in Vienna and what is the added value of their planned stay at FHWien? Students should try to answer those questions as concise as possible. It would be great if their applications could be proofread/checked by you or one of your colleagues keeping in mind this criteria. A strong motivation/argumentation increases the students chances to get the grant!

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

We look forward to receiving your Ernst Mach nominations!

Best wishes from Vienna,

Manfred
