This scholarship provides Chinese language–related support for international students, including half tuition waiver, TOCFL test fee subsidy, and Mandarin Training Center course subsidy. It aims to encourage Chinese learning and improve language proficiency and academic performance.

1. Introduction
To encourage international students to learn Chinese, NTUT provides several types of Chinese proficiency support: half tuition waiver, TOCFL test fee subsidy, and Mandarin Training Center course subsidy. These awards aim to improve students’ language proficiency and overall academic performance.
2. Eligibility
(1) New International Students
- Completed admission application and officially registered (Bachelor’s / Master’s / PhD).
- Eligible for half tuition waiver (international students only).
- Must complete:
- Online health questionnaire (before arrival, within deadline)
- Health checkup and adjustment questionnaire after enrollment
- May not receive ROC government or other NTUT scholarships concurrently.
(2) Current International Students
1. Half Tuition Waiver
- TOCFL Level 3 or above (CAT computerized test only).
- Previous academic year average ≥ 70, conduct score ≥ 80.
- TOCFL score must show “one-level upgrade" , for example:
- TOCFL Level 2 → TOCFL Level 3
- TOCFL Level 3 → TOCFL Level 4 ...etc.
- or reached TOCFL Level 6
2. TOCFL Test Fee Subsidy
- Students who take TOCFL during enrollment period and achieve Level 3 or above may apply.
3. NTUT CLTC Course Subsidy
- Must provide enrollment certificate of that semester.
- Students must submit a new TOCFL score within 3 months after course completion (any level accepted).
(3) Overseas Chinese Students
- Eligible for: TOCFL test subsidy, NTUT CLTC center course subsidy
- NOT eligible for half tuition waiver.
(4) Extended-Year Students (5th year undergraduate / 3rd-year master / 5th-year PhD)
- Eligible for TOCFL test fee subsidy and NTUT CLTC center course subsidy.
- NOT eligible for half tuition waiver.
3. Chinese Proficiency Recognition
- Only TOCFL (CAT computerized adaptive test) is accepted.
- For new students applying for half tuition waiver, the following are accepted:
- SPM Chinese grade C or above (Malaysia)
- UEC Chinese grade C or above (Malaysia)
- Other certificates equivalent to TOCFL Level 3 (CEFR B1) (based on SC-TOP guidelines)
4. Award Details
(1) Half Tuition Waiver (International Students)
- 50% tuition & fees waiver.
- Does NOT include: miscellaneous fees, accommodation, insurance, books, internet.
(2) TOCFL Test Fee Subsidy
- Up to NT$2,000 per test.
- Limited to once per year per student.
(3) NTUT CLTC center course subsidy
- 50% course tuition subsidy.
- Limited to once per year; subject to CLTC's course availability.
5. Application Timeline
(1) Half Tuition Waiver (International Students)
- New Students: Apply during admission application
- Current Students: Every July
- July / Online Application
- Aug / Tuition Payment (pay the full amount first)
- Late Aug / Result Announcement
- Sep / Begin disbursing the scholarship to the recipient(s)
(2) TOCFL Test Fee Subsidy
- July / Online Application
- Late Aug / Result Announcement
- Sep / Begin disbursing the scholarship to the recipient(s)
(3) NTUT CLTC center course subsidy: based on CLTC's course application timeline.
6. Application Procedure
(1) New International Students
- Prepare Chinese proficiency proof (TOCFL Level 3 [CEFR B1]] / SPM / UEC / equivalent certificates).
- Reviewed by department & OIA during admission application.
- Complete health questionnaire, health checkup, and adjustment survey.
- Wait for OIA’s award notification.
(2) Current International Students
1. Half Tuition Waiver (renewal)
- Apply online during OIA’s announced period.
- Prepare documents:
- Official transcript
- Two TOCFL score reports (before & after upgrade)
- Pay tuition first → subsidy applied after approval.
- Wait for official result from OIA.
2. TOCFL Test Fee Subsidy
- Apply online during the announced period.
- Upload TOCFL Level Level 3 or above score.
3. Mandarin Center Course Subsidy
- Upload semester enrollment certificate.
- Submit language center affidavit.
- Submit TOCFL score within 3 months after course ends.
7. Disqualification
- Withdrawal or suspension.
- Failure to register within deadline.
- Leaving Taiwan for more than 1 month during semester.
- Serious misconduct or major violations.
- Receiving disciplinary action above minor demerit.
- New students failing to submit safety seminar certificate before the second semester.
- Language center subsidy:
- Attendance below 80%.
- Failure to submit TOCFL score within 3 months.
