Chinese Language Excellence Awards for International Students

Designed to encourage international students with Chinese language ability to enroll and continuously improve their proficiency.

Eligibility Requirements

Newly Admitted / First-Time Applicants

  • TOCFL Advanced Level 3 or above, or equivalent CEFR B1 or above.
  • New students may submit other Chinese language proficiency proof, such as SPM Chinese subject transcripts or Malaysian Independent Chinese Secondary School (UEC) Chinese subject transcripts.
  • Applicants may not simultaneously receive other scholarships from ROC government agencies or from NTUT's other scholarship programs.

Current Students – Second Application Onwards

  • Previous academic year GPA must be 70 or above; conduct score must be 80 or above.
  • Must submit two consecutive TOCFL score certificates showing at least one level improvement from the previous application. (e.g., B1 → B2, C1 → C2)
  • Students who have reached TOCFL Level 6 may continue to apply in accordance with regulations.
  • Must submit proof of attending an International Student Safety Seminar and passing the associated test or evaluation within the past year.
Award Details
  • Approved applicants will receive a 50% reduction in tuition and fees for the current academic year.
  • The subsidy does not cover administrative fees, internet usage fees, accommodation, textbooks, insurance, or other miscellaneous charges.
How to Apply
  1. Newly Admitted Students: Eligibility is reviewed during the admission process; awards are granted to officially admitted new students for that academic year.
  2. Current International Students: Applications must be submitted within the period announced by the Office of International Affairs each year around July.
  3. Current students must submit original transcripts and two consecutive TOCFL score certificates. (e.g., B1 → B2, C1 → C2)
  4. Applications are reviewed and approved by the Awards Review Committee.

TOCFL Exam Registration Fee Subsidy

Encourages currently enrolled international and overseas compatriot students to take the TOCFL and advance to higher proficiency levels.

Eligibility Requirements
  • Must be a current international student at NTUT
  • Must have taken the TOCFL (Test of Chinese as a Foreign Language) and obtained an official score report
  • Meet one of the following conditions:
    • Demonstrated improvement in Chinese proficiency (e.g., B1 → B2, C1 → C2)
    • First-time test takers who achieve at least B1 level (TOCFL Level 3)
  • Application must be submitted before the deadline (June 30, 2026)
Award Details
  • Maximum subsidy: NTD 2,000 per student (TOCFL test registration fee)
  • Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis (first come, first served)
How to Apply
  1. Complete the TOCFL test and obtain the official score report
  2. Prepare the following documents:
    1. Certificate of enrollment
    2. Copy of ARC
    3. Copy of student ID
    4. Copy of the first page of post office passbook
    5. TOCFL certificate and official score report
    6. (If applying based on improvement) Previous TOCFL score report or relevant proof
  3. Submit all documents to the Office of International Affairs, Ms. Amanda (hwang@ntut.edu.tw)

NTUT Chinese Language Training Center Course Subsidy

Encourages currently enrolled international and overseas compatriot students to take Chinese language courses at NTUT's Chinese Language Training Center and obtain a TOCFL score upon completion.

Eligibility Requirements
  • Applicants must submit proof of current enrollment for the semester in which they wish to take the course.
  • Registration must be completed within the period announced by the Chinese Language Training Center, and applicants must sign a letter of undertaking.
  • Students who submit a valid TOCFL certificate of Advanced Level 3 or above within three months of completing the course are eligible for an additional performance bonus.
  • For a second or subsequent performance bonus application, the TOCFL score must show at least one level improvement from the previous application (e.g., B1 → B2, C1 → C2).
  • Students who have reached TOCFL Level 6 may only apply for this performance bonus once at that level.
Award Details
  • From the semester of enrollment, students may register for courses at the Chinese Language Center and receive a course tuition subsidy in accordance with Center regulations.
  • Students who complete the course and submit a qualifying TOCFL score certificate within the specified deadline will receive an additional NT$2,000 performance bonus.
  • Limited to one application per student per semester.
How to Apply
  1. Register for the course during the period announced by the Chinese Language Training Center.
  2. Submit proof of current enrollment for the semester and sign the letter of undertaking.
  3. After completing the course, submit a qualifying TOCFL score certificate within three months.
  4. Final arrangements, including discounted tuition rates, conditions, and enrollment caps, are managed by the Chinese Language Center based on actual course offerings.

General Notes

Accepted Chinese Proficiency Proof TOCFL scores or certificates must be from the Computerized Adaptive Test (CAT). For new students applying for the Half Tuition Subsidy, other forms of Chinese language proficiency proof may be accepted in accordance with regulations.
Quota The number of awards under each program is determined annually by the Awards Review Committee based on the available budget and the volume of applications received. Unused quotas will not be carried over to the following academic year.
Grounds for Disqualification NTUT reserves the right to cancel eligibility and reclaim disbursed funds in cases of withdrawal or deregistration, failure to re-enroll by the deadline, departure from the country for more than one month during the semester, serious violations of law or university regulations, disciplinary actions of major demerit or above, failure to submit proof of completing the International Student Safety Seminar, attendance below 80% in Chinese Language Center courses, or simultaneous receipt of mutually exclusive subsidies.
Effective Date These amended regulations take effect from the first semester of Academic Year 115.
