Apply for Suspension/Drop-out and Resumption of Study
Suspension and Drop-out of Study
The Residence Certificate is void after students complete all the procedures to leave the school (dropout or suspension). Students who want to enter Taiwan for studies must apply for a visa once again.
If you are a newly enrolled student at Taipei Tech (1st year 1st semester) and would like to apply for suspension (defer enrollment), you need to pay the tuition first and then apply for suspension.
If you are a current student at Taipei Tech and would like to apply for suspension before the semester starts, then you do not need to pay for the tuition for the new semester. If you apply for the suspension after the semester starts, then you need to pay for the tuition first and then apply.
If you would like to extend your suspension, you need to reply to the OAA slip and contact the OAA: https://oaa.ntut.edu.tw/p/412-1008-13405.php?Lang=en

FAQ
What is the deadline to cancel the alien resident certificate at the National Immigration Agency after suspension or withdrawal from the university? Is there a penalty if it is not cancelled? What is the deadline for departure after the alien resident certificate is cancelled?
- After confirming that the foreign students, students from Hong Kong or Macao have graduated, suspended or withdrawal, the school should notify the Bureau of Consular Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the National Immigration Agency, Ministry of the Interior. The National Immigration Agency will cancel their alien resident certificates.
- For the cancellation of the student’s alien resident certificate due to graduation, suspension and withdrawal from university, the National Immigration Agency’s written statement on cancelling alien resident certificates stated that the party is requested to return the alien resident certificate to the service stations of the National Immigration Agency for the purpose of reducing the number of invalid alien resident certificates circulating outside, and to prevent the party from using it by mistake when coming to Taiwan. Although not returning the alien resident certificate will not affect the foreign student’s entry to Taiwan, the universities are still requested to assist in the advocacy. In addition, foreign student should depart the country within 10 days after receiving the National Immigration Agency’s written statement on cancelling alien resident certificates, lest you be fined for late departure.
- Students from Hong Kong and Macao who are suspended or withdrawal from university, the National Immigration Agency will check whether the student is in Taiwan upon receiving the notification. If remained in the country, the National Immigration Agency will inform the university or the party directly, notifying the party to return their alien resident certificate at the National Immigration Agency’s service stations, and apply for a one-time exit permit (require 5 working days). Please depart within 10 days after the approval date of the permit lest you be fined for late departure. In case for those remained in Taiwan but unable to be notified or already departed the country, the National Immigration Agency will issue a written statement cancelling the student’s alien resident certificate, and upon completion, the resident permit will be invalid. If the party use the invalid alien resident certificate for departure, it will be confiscated by the airport inspection staff, and apply for departure after the penalties. For those already departed the country, it is recommended to return the invalid alien resident certificate to the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Hong Kong or Macao in order to reduce the number of invalid alien resident certificates circulating outside, and to prevent the party from using it by mistake when coming to Taiwan.
